Therapy? – Diane

Song

"Diane" is a song by American band Hüsker Dü that appears on their Metal Circus EP from 1983, but appeared in their live set as early as 1981, as evidenced by its inclusion in a recording from August that year which appears on the compilation Savage Young Dü. The song was written by drummer Grant Hart, and concerns the murder of West St. Paul waitress Diane Edwards by Joseph Ture Jr. in 1980.

Therapy? version

Northern Irish metal band Therapy? covered the song and released it as a single on November 6, 1995, on A&M Records. The song is featured on the Infernal Love album in a radically different arrangement from the original, featuring only cello and vocals. The single reached number 26 on the UK Singles Chart and number 20 on the Irish Singles Chart.

The single entered the top 10 in several European countries, winning an award for best single from Humo magazine in Belgium. The single was released on CD, CD digipak, CD velvet digipak, red 7-inch vinyl, and cassette.

Album

Infernal Love is the fifth album by the Northern Ireland rock band Therapy?.

Their third album on a major label, it was released on 12 June 1995 on A&M Records. The album was recorded at Real World Studios in Box, Wiltshire from January to March 1995.

The album was a major shift in direction from previous album Troublegum, moving away from punk-metal to create a broad epic cinematic soundscape with a strong melodic and rock grounding, with the songs being linked by ambient music pieces from DJ David Holmes. The album also contains a vocals-and-cellos version of "Diane" by American punk band Hüsker Dü, which also became a single. The cellist, Martin McCarrick, later joined Therapy? for several albums.

It was the final album to feature the original three-piece line-up, as drummer Fyfe Ewing departed in January 1996 following the European leg of the Infernal Love tour. The album reached number 9 in the UK Albums Chart and was certified Silver in the UK. It was also certified gold in Belgium.

I Therapy? sono un gruppo alternative metal nordirlandese. Sono stati formati nel 1989 dal chitarrista/cantante Andy Cairns di Ballyclare e dal batterista Fyfe Ewing di Larne, paesino dell'Irlanda del Nord. La band incise il suo primo demo con al basso lo stesso Cairns, mentre successivamente venne ingaggiato il bassista Michael McKeegan.

Con uno spiccato senso dell'umorismo, uno stile che spesso strizzava l'occhio al pop ed a molti altri generi musicali, i Therapy? si fecero notare nei primi anni novanta sull'onda della popolarità riscossa dalle sonorità alternative rock, e la loro celebrità durò per più di una decina d'anni.

Nonostante siano scomparsi dalle classifiche, i Therapy continuano a incidere album e fare tournée.

Con l'arrivo di Neil Cooper alla batteria, la band ha raggiunto una formazione stabile dal 2004.

Sono attualmente sotto contratto con la Demolition Records, e vengono distribuiti a livello mondiale dalla Global Music.
