Velvet Revolver – Can’t Get It Out Of My Head

Song

"Can't Get It Out of My Head" is a song written by Jeff Lynne and originally recorded by Electric Light Orchestra (also known as ELO).

First released on the band's fourth album Eldorado in September 1974, the song is the second track on the album and follows "Eldorado Overture". The song was released in November the same year as a single.

The song became the band's first top 10 single in the United States, reaching number 9, and helped boost public awareness of the band in the U.S., although the single and LP failed to chart in the UK. In 1978, it was included as the lead song on the four-track The ELO EP (UK release), reaching number 34 on the UK charts. The song has appeared on many ELO compilation albums.

Lynne wrote the song partially in response to his father's criticism that the previous songs he wrote didn't have any tune, wanting to show that he could write a song with a beautiful melody.

Lynne has stated that the lyrics "were about a man who was dreaming, sees this vision of loveliness and wakes up and finds that he's actually a clerk working in a bank" and so will not be able to act on this dream.

Libertad è il secondo album in studio dei Velvet Revolver pubblicato in Italia e nel resto d'Europa il 2 luglio 2007, l'uscita negli U.S.A è stata posticipata di un giorno.

Il nome dell'album è in spagnolo, che tradotto in italiano significa "libertà". Secondo un'intervista del 2007 di Rolling Stone, insieme con l'album Core degli Stone Temple Pilots, Libertad è l'unico album che il cantante Scott Weiland ha scritto sobrio.

Libertad è stato l'ultimo album dei Velvet Revolver con Weiland alla voce: il cantante ha lasciato la band nel mese di aprile 2008. Libertad è anche l'ultimo disco della band pubblicato con l'RCA Records.

Artist

I Velvet Revolver sono stati un gruppo rock statunitense formatosi nel 2003 e composto da tre ex componenti dei Guns N' Roses (il chitarrista Slash, il bassista Duff McKagan e il batterista Matt Sorum), dall'ex frontman degli Stone Temple Pilots Scott Weiland e da Dave Kushner, chitarrista della band hardcore punk Wasted Youth.

Storia

I tre "ex-guns" si ritrovarono a suonare insieme quasi per caso e decisero di formare un nuovo gruppo quando si ritrovarono al funerale di Randy Castillo. A loro si unì in primis Kushner, dopodiché fu selezionato il cantante Scott Weiland (proveniente dagli Stone Temple Pilots) in seguito a una serie di provini.

Prima di adottare il nome definitivo Velvet Revolver, scelsero temporaneamente il nome The Project. Pubblicarono due album: Contraband, uscito l'8 giugno 2004 (dal quale fu estratto il singolo Fall To Pieces) e Libertad, uscito il 3 luglio 2007. Quest'ultimo ricevette dalla nota rivista Rolling Stone una critica abbastanza positiva (3,5 stelle su 4).

Il 2 aprile 2008 Scott Weiland venne allontanato dal gruppo, pare per via dei suoi continui problemi con sostanze stupefacenti, e la band intraprese, senza successo, una serie di audizioni nel tentativo di trovare un nuovo frontman.

Soltanto il 12 gennaio 2012, in occasione dello show "Love You Madly: A Concert For John O'Brien" a Hollywood, i Velvet Revolver si riunirono con Scott Weiland.

Negli anni successivi la band fu accantonata in seguito alla reunion degli Stone Temple Pilots e all'intensa attività solista di Slash.

La sera del 3 dicembre 2015, Weiland venne trovato senza vita nel suo tour bus in Minnesota, dove si trovava per un concerto degli Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts.
